On Wednesday, November 29th, 2006, the JRGBC hosted the Second Annual GreenBuilding Leadership Awards Luncheon.Over 180 attendees were present to hear keynote speakers Dr. Stewart D. Roberson, Superintendent, Hanover County Public Schools and Mr. M. Douglas Lowe, LEED AP, President and Owner, Artisan Construction, Inc. speak about “Public and Residential High Performance Buildings” and visit with more than 20 green exhibitors.

Better Housing Coalition
The Better Housing Coalition has been incorporating green building principles and practices into their projects for almost 10 years. They have made sustainable design part of their organizational philosophy and eachdevelopment is greener than the one before. They have a Rose Fellow on their staff to further their green techniques and practices and they have soughtand received funding for green development from Home Depot, Green Communities, and Alcoa. They have completed the first multi-family development (Carter Woods) to receive the EarthCraft green building certification.
Government
Virginia Housing Development Authority
Under the leadership of Executive Director, Susan Dewey, and the Virginia Housing Development Authority Board of Commissioners, VHDA has become a recognized national leader in the promotion of green building principles and practices in affordable housing. The VHDA has promoted green building over many years and is the first HFA in the country to make a green building program (EarthCraft) a major part of their tax credit criteria.

Sustainable Design Consulting
Sustainable Design Consulting has made many contributions to greening the built environment both in Virginia and nationally. The company is proactive in many green organizations including: James River Green Building Council; Virginia Sustainable Building Network; Washington Chapter AIA, Committeeon the Environment; Inter-Governmental Green Building Workgroup; Architects, Designers, Planners for Social Responsibility; and GreenHOME. Sustainable Design Consulting team members have written and presented on a wide variety of green design and development subjects.

Bill Edgerton
Bill Edgerton is President of the Oak Hill Foundation and has been a major sponsor and promoter of green building for many years on a nationwide basis, including Virginia-based projects. He is an architect and was afounder of the COTE and has played many leadership roles in supporting green building. He has contributed funds to the Virginia Sustainable Building Network, the Design Center in Charlottesville, Habitat for Humanity, Better Housing Coalition, Southface and EarthCraft Virginia among other initiatives.
