Study shows going "green" would save average school $100,000 a year, paying for two new teachers
A new national report finds that building “green” would save an average school $100,000 each year – enough to hire two new additional full-time teachers. The report breaks new ground by demonstrating that green schools – schools designed to be energy efficient, healthy and environmentally friendly -- are extremely cost-effective. Total financial benefits from green schools outweigh the costs 20 to 1. With over $35 billion dollars projected to be spent in 2007 on K-12 construction, the conclusions of this report have far-reaching implications for future school design.

Public Owners Using LEED Standards, Says PinnacleOne Survey
According to a new study by PinnacleOne, one of the nation's leading construction consulting firms, almost half (48 percent) of public owners in the United States have implemented construction projects with energy efficiency designs in the past year.  Of those owners who implemented energy efficient designs, the vast majority (87 percent) were familiar with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building standards and more than two-thirds (70 percent) used LEED standards in their designs.  More than two-thirds (70 percent) of the owners who implemented energy efficient designs in the past year say their designs received LEED certification. Of those designs, 71 percent received a silver certification and 29 percent achieved a gold certification.  More info at: http://www.greenbuildingcommunity.com/news_full.php?cpfeatureid=16585&id=13892
