Moseley Architects’ headquarters is a renovated industrial building originally constructed in 1930. A mezzanine level was added to substantially increase the amount of useable floor area. The office is designed to accommodate more than 200 full-time staff. The Scott’s Addition area, where the building is located, is designated as an historic district.  As such, the design was reviewed and approved by both the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and the National Park Service.

In keeping with the firm’s strong commitment to green building, the new office incorporated numerous sustainable design strategies and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) to achieve LEED Platinum certification. Some of the building’s green features include the following:

  • Preferred parking is provided for hybrid, fuel-efficient, and carpool vehicles to lessen automobile traffic and pollution
  • A stormwater management system protects water quality and reduces runoff leaving the site by 26 percent
  • Low-flow and waterless plumbing fixtures reduce water usage by over 37 percent
  • Energy submeters linked to a building “dashboard” track energy consumption patterns and ensure optimal performance
  • Construction waste management plans diverted over 90 percent of the construction waste  from landfills
  • Indoor air quality management plans and low-emitting materials safeguard occupant health
  • Rapidly-renewable materials, such as sunflower board and bamboo, reduce the strain on wood resources
  • Additional windows and skylights increase daylighting and provide occupants with views to  the exterior
  • Environmentally-friendly housekeeping and pest-prevention programs are utilized.Location:
