of sustainability. Earthcraft for Low-Income HousingVirginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) continues to add green, high performance measures to the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program. In proposed new rules for the “06” Qualified Application Plan (QAP), fifteen points are available to any project that agrees to design and build the proposed multifamily project to EarthCraft Multifamily standards. EarthCraft is a green builder program developed by Southface in Atlanta in cooperation with the Atlanta Homebuilders Association. Several thousand EarthCraft single family homes have been certified under the program which has been operational for over five years. EarthCraft Multifamily certification has been awarded to both affordable and market rate multifamily projects in the Atlanta area, including tax credit projects. EarthCraft is a point based, third party certified system similar to LEED with certain mandatories such as Energy Star certification, plan review documentation, inspections and commissioning at the end of construction.
