Porous asphalt pavements are attracting attention because of the role they can play in sustainable site design and storm water management. This technology is of interest to public works officials, consulting engineers, land developers, contractors, environmental engineers, and others with an interest in minimizing the impact of development on the environment. Get the whole story on porous pavement – from the big picture to making sure the details are right – by attending NAPA’s Porous Asphalt Pavement seminars. Some of the country’s top experts on the subject will explore every aspect of porous pavements, from initial site evaluation through design, construction, and maintenance.

Turn left onto Three Chopt and cross Patterson Avenue .Continue on Three Chopt and turn right onto Boatwright Drive. Follow Boatwright to the bottom of the winding hill and turn left onto Campus Drive. James River Green Building Council (JRGBC) is collaborating with the Virginia Sustainable Building Network,VSBN, the presenters of the Virginia Sustainable Futures Summit III Conference, to highlight design that supports the principles of sustainability.

JRGBC seeks Virginia designers’ projects for display and discussion at the VSF III conference that illustrate regional efforts to integrate environmentally responsible design methods and materials into the built environment. Winners of the Virginia Go Green Awards will be selected from these entries and awards will be presented at the 1st Annual JRGBC Virginia Go Green Awards Luncheon.

Selected Projects will be: EXHIBITED during the VSF III conference Panel Discussion on September 13th, 2005 DISCUSSED by a panel of regionally recognized leaders on Sustainable Design JUDGED for the Virginia GO GREEN Awards and PRESENTED at the 1st Annual JRGBC Virginia Go Green Awards Luncheon in late November DISPLAYED on the JRGBC website, www.jrgbc.org/GoGreen PUBLISHED in the Go Green Awards booklet available for purchase December 15, 2005.

Earthcraft for Low-Income Housing

Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) continues to add green, high performance measures to the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program. In proposed new rules for the “06” Qualified Application Plan (QAP), fifteen points are available to any project that agrees to design and build the proposed multifamily project to EarthCraft Multifamily standards.

EarthCraft is a green builder program developed by Southface in Atlanta in cooperation with the Atlanta Homebuilders Association. Several thousand EarthCraft single family homes have been certified under the program which has been operational for over five years. EarthCraft Multifamily certification has been awarded to both affordable and market rate multifamily projects in the Atlanta area, including tax credit projects. EarthCraft is a point based, third party certified system similar to LEED with certain mandatories such as Energy Star certification, plan review documentation, inspections and commissioning at the end of construction.
