LEED EXAMS
Commercial Interiors, Existing Buildings, and New Buildings' exams . In addition to being able to choose from three exam tracks, exam candidates and existing LEED APs can now create "Accreditation Profiles" via the USGBC LEED AP website, which allows them to schedule and register for the exam(s) online; manage their accreditation records; and view exam results.

Governor Kaine signs onto the Climate Change Registry!
Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Virginia has joined The Climate Registry and will work with other states and tribes to develop a common accounting system to track greenhouse gas emissions.

Money isn't the only green here
When G. William "Billy" Beale strolls around Union Bankshares' new operations center, he sees lots of green. Not only visions of dollar bills, but also the save-the-planet kind of green. The fact that the Caroline County-based financial firm would be at the forefront of a growing environmental movement speaks volumes about how times have changed. The company moved into its new operations center at Carmel Church last month. Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, it's one of the first buildings of its type in the region.

Green building award winners
The James River Green Building Council awarded a $10,000 building grant and seven awards to projects in central Virginia that support principles of sustainability. Cool roof, sun-heated water among ideas honored by council.

Roanoke property owners encouraged to think green
City council approves a reduction in the tax rate for high energy efficiency. Roanoke property owners will be paying more real estate taxes in the coming budget year thanks to a greater than 5 percent increase in property assessments. But starting July 1, property owners can pay less green in taxes by making their buildings more green.

The light bulb, the symbol of bright ideas, doesn't look like such a great idea anymore, as lawmakers in the U.S. and abroad are talking about banning the century-old technology because of its contribution to global warming.

USGBC Member Ballot Open for Energy Performance Requirements
USGBC is seeking member approval to require all LEED projects to earn 2 "optimize energy" points, to increase LEED's impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. USGBC's ballot will close on June 12th, 2007 at 5:00 pm EST.
